The letters follow a common pattern...
The letters follow a common pattern: the Lord of hosts first
addresses each
church and
identifies
himself, then
defines things
that He knows
about the church
in question.
After this a
challenge or
reproach is
given, followed
by a promise.
In all
seven
cases the
admonition is
included, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit says to the churches", although sometimes this comes before the promise and sometimes
after. Repent,
fear not, hold
fast, be
watchful,
overcome and be
prepared,
behold, I am
coming quickly
with My reward! Although
the letters
differ in length
in accord with
the needs of
each community,
all conclude
with an appeal
to hold fast and
to listen to
what the
Spirit is saying to the churches. Each church is promised that everyone
who
conquers will be rewarded by the
Lord Yeshua
Messiah or
Jesus Christ!
These
messages can
also be found
within the
Churches today!

the Church. Note:
The 7 Lamp-stands are the 7 Churches. He is among them! on the Earth
while from
Chapter 4 they
are in Heaven!
Each of
the 7 phrases; 4
levels of
meaning; The
title of the
Lord Yeshua is
different for
each church and
appropriate to
each church
itself! Every
church is
surprised.
Of all things that he saw. This relates to Apostle John as the receiver of the Revelation from G-D to man (Revelation 1:1). It was John who bore record of the Word of G-D, the testimony of Jesus Christ or Yeshua Messiah, and all things that he saw. The next to the last verse of John's Gospel (Revelation 21:24) can well be quoted here as proving the authenticity of this book as well as his Gospel. This is the disciple which testified of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. The authenticity of Revelation then is based upon the testimony of G-D the Father { אלהים }, Yeshua or Jesus Christ the Son, and John who was moved upon by the Holy Spirit (Revelation 1:10; 4:2; 17:3; 19:10; 21:9, 10) to record all things that he saw from the Father and the Son. The force of the word saw implies not only the mere act of looking, but the actual perception of the object. It is used forty-five times in this book! The
Three Divisions
of Revelation
2.
Write the
things which are.
That is, in
the second
division of the
book of
Revelation
write the things
that I (Yeshua
- Christ)
will tell you to
write about
concerning the
churches, or
concerning the
Church on earth.
This John did in
Rev. 2:13:22; . 1:19.
3.
Write
the things which
must be
hereafter.
That is, as
the third and
last division of
the book of
Revelation
write the things
that I (Yeshua
- Christ)
will show you
after you
have completed
things
concerning the
churches. These
last things do
not concern the
things of the
churchesthey
concern events
after the Church
Age. These
things to happen
after the Church
Age were
recorded by John
in
Rev. 4:122:21; 1:19. In the Earthy temple 5 of the 7 lamps had to be cleaned...before...
The
lamps had to be
cleaned every
day! In the
Earthy temple 5
of the 7 lamps
had to be
cleaned and been prepared
with new fresh olive
oil & wicks
before the
incense was
burned on the
golden altar, in
the morning!
The other 2 were
prepare after
the incense was
offered! Out of
the 7 Churches
in the Book of
Revelation
5 of
those Yeshua
warned that they
had to clean
their act and
the other
2 He
gave great
commendations
to. An exact
reflection what
a priest should
do at the
temple; clean up
5 and leave 2
burning. This is
an symbolic
picture of an
ancient Jewish
Temple! (It was
destroyed in the
time that
Apostle John
wrote this, but
the Jews are
still familiar
with it.
After this the gates of the Heavenly Temple were open for the worshippers! In Chapter 4 John is caught up into Heaven as the door of Heaven open! Ephesusis 'famous' for the
temple of Diana, one of the 7 wonders of the world. Paul had
worked there for
3 years and had
written an
epistle to the
Ephesian church.
He eventually
ordained Timothy
as overseer
there but
probably only
temporarily.
Toward the end
of his life,
John made
Ephesus the
center from
which he labored
and taught. |

Ephesus
Η was
an ancient Greek
city on the west
coast of Asia
Minor, near
present-day Seljuk,
Izmir Province,
Modern day
Turkey. It was
one of the
twelve cities of
the Ionian
League during
the Classical
Greek era. In
the Roman
period, it was
for many years
the second
largest city of
the Roman
Empire; ranking
behind Rome, the
empire's
capital. Ephesus
had a population
of more than
250,000 in the
1st century BC,
which also made
it the second
largest city in
the world. The
city was 'famed'
for
the Temple of Artemis or the Temple of Idol
god 'Diana'
(completed around 550 BCE), one of the Seven Wonders of the
Ancient World.
Diana was the idol goddess of
the hunt, being
associated with
wild animals and
woodland, and
also of the moon
in Roman
mythology. In
literature she
was the
equivalent of
the Greek
goddess Artemis |

The Ephesians suffered for the Lord without
ceasing, but He
knows they were
enduring
patiently and
bearing up for
His names sake,
and they have

in the tongues

The Ephesians church is deficient in love
(left
their first
love; not lost!); an
obvious
reference to
love for
Yeshua Messiah
(Timothy 5:12) and probably also forsake
the
brotherly love.
They became
spiritual weaker
& neglect from
winning the lost
souls as a
result of
Scriptural
truth of
forsaking their
"first love"!
The Church
became
Legalistic |

One of the
seven chosen to
have the
oversight of
the daily
ministration to
the poor of the
church in
Jerusalem
(Acts 6:5).
He is called a
proselyte of
Antioch; (the
other 6 were
therefore
probably Jews by
birth). Some of
the church
Fathers (Irenaeus,
Hippolytus,
Pseudo-Tertullian)
state that he
was the founder
of a sect called
NICOLAITANS.
Other Fathers
seem to suggest
that this was a
vain claim made
by this sect in
seeking
apostolic
authority for
their opinions. |

But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. (Rev. 2:6,14-15,20). The lord did not hate these specific people, but hated their evil deeds! He disapproved that certain people (clerisy stature) are 'conquering' and 'ruling' over the 'church' people! That is un-scriptural! Formalism is some denomination is likewise the Nicolaitans. |
Followers of Nicolaus,
a heretic. were
known for their
lascivious*
lifestyle and
with false
teachers among
them. They
are thought to
have been a
first century sect
of Gnostics who
practiced and
taught impure
and immoral
doctrines, such
as the community
of wives, that
committing
adultery and
fornication was
not sinful, and
that eating
meats offered to
idols was
lawful. This was
similar to the
doctrines of
Balaam and
Jezebel of
Thyatira

For most
Christians,
isn't
it
always easy to
discern
and to
understand,
who is speaking
in your heart
and it is also
difficult to
follow that the
Holy Spirit
is speaking to
you! How can you
discern and to
understand which
voice is
speaking to you?
Also search by
yourself in the
Word of God and
pray for wisdom
and for
understanding!
Search for His
Divine presence!
He shall come
and He shall
speak! When you
search by
yourself for
Him, you will
recognize,
understand and
discern
the voice of the
Holy Spirit
loud and clear
in your
innermost heart!
Not only inside
your heart, but
also by
ministers who
preach the Word
and prophets.
Who so ever
speaks, you will
recognize the
voice of God or
another one.
There are
3
voices to
discern and to
distinct:
1. The voice of the Holy Spirit
2.
The voice of
your
mind* 3. The voice of the evil one or an evil spirit.

In contrast to the other churches, Apostle John had
nothing negative
to write about
the church of
Smyrna.
(Also for
Philadelphia) He did, however, predict that the persecution will continue and
urged them, "Be
faithful to the
point of death,
and I will give
you the crown of
life" The
persecution of
Christians
continued into
the second
century, as
documented by
the martyrdom of
Polycarp, bishop
of Smyrna, in
155 AD.

Smyrna
Η
(meaning myrrh)
was an ancient city located at a central
and strategic
point on the
Aegean coast of
Anatolia; aided
by its
advantageous
port conditions,
its ease of
defense and its
good inland
connections,
Smyrna rose to
prominence. The
ancient city is
located at two
sites within
modern Izmir,
Turkey. About
50 miles northwest of Ephesus on
the Aegean Sea.
Smyrna was famous
for its athletic
games. Each
champion would
receive a
crown, a
victory wreath.
In ancient Rome
this was the
most
sought-after
prize.

The church in this city struggled
against
two
hostile forces:

ministry and the

corruptible that

crown to
be given to the
righteous

Believers and unbelievers alike
experience
physical death. The
first death for those in Smyrna might well be
martyrdom. But even then they would be
victorious,
because they
would
not face
the second
death! All people will be resurrected,
but believers
will be
resurrected to
eternal life
with G-D, while
unbelievers will
be resurrected
to be punished
with a
second
deatheternal
separation from God

church
in Pergamos

sharp sword with
two edges;

The Lord's words cut and penetrate deep, and it
was easy to
picture him as
having a sword
proceeding from
his mouth; that
is, His words
were as piercing
as a sharp
sword. As He was
about to reprove
the church at
Pergamos, there
was a propriety
in referring to
this power of
the Savior. |

|
Balaam (Hebrew: בִּלְעָם); a prophet, and the son of Beor; is a diviner
in the Torah,
his story
occurring
towards the end
of the
Book of Numbers.
Balaam attempted to
curse G-D's
people. He
failed all three
tries, each time
producing
blessings,
not curses
(Numbers
Chapters 22 -
24).
Balaam's error and the source of his
wickedness came not from the curses he never delivered on, but from
sabotaging the
Israelites as
they entered the
Promised Land.
According to
Numbers 31:16
and Apostle John
(Revelation
2:14), Balaam returned to King Balak and informed the king on how to
get the
Israelites
to curse themselves by enticing them with
prostitutes and
unclean food
sacrificed to
idols.
The Israelites
fell into
transgression
due to these
traps and YHWH
sent a deadly
plague to them
as a result
(Numbers 31:16).

Repentance is required of all backsliders (Rev. 2:5, 21,22; 3:3,19). That there is a possibility of backsliders not repenting is clear from the fact that if they did not repent, they would be judged. |

in Thyatira

hath His eyes
like unto a
flame of fire,
and His feet

|
Thyateira is
the name of the
modern Turkish
city of Akhisar
("white
castle"). It
lies in the far
west of Turkey,
south of
Istanbul and
almost due east
of Athens. It is
about 50 miles
(80 km) from the
Mediterranean.
It was famous
for its dyeing
and was a center
of the indigo
trade. Among the
ancient ruins of
the city,
inscriptions
have been found
relating to the
guild of dyers
in the city.
Indeed, more
guilds are known
in Thyatira than
any other
contemporary
city in the
Roman province
of Asia
(inscriptions
mention the
following:
wool-workers,
linen-workers,
makers of outer
garments,
dyers,
leather-workers,
tanners,
potters, bakers,
slave-dealers
and
bronze-smiths.
It was famous
for its dyeing
and was a center
of the indigo
trade. Indigo
dye is an
organic compound
with a
distinctive blue
color.
Historically,
indigo was
extracted from
plants, and this
process was
important
economically
because
blue
dyes were
once rare
The
Apostle Paul and
Silas might have
visited
Thyateira during
Paul's second or
third journey,
although the
evidence is
entirely
circumstantial.
They visited
several small
unnamed towns in
the general
vicinity during
the second
journey. While
in Philippi,
Paul and Silas
stayed with a
woman named
Lydia from
Thyateira, who
continued to
help them even
after they were
jailed and
released.
The
name, "Lydia",
meaning "the
Lydian woman",
by which she was
known indicates
that she was
from Lydia in
Asia Minor. She
was evidently a
well-to-do agent
of a
purple-dye
firm of
Thyatira. Lydia
insisted on
giving
hospitality to
Apostle Paul and
his companions
in Philippi.
They stayed with
her until their
departure,
through
Amphipolis and
Apollonia, to
Thessalonica
(Acts
16:40-17:1). |

Six things the
Lord
recognize
in the Church of
Thyatira:

Notwithstanding

things against

that woman
Jezebel, which
calleth herself
a prophetess, to
teach and to
seduce

to commit
fornication, and
to eat things
sacrificed unto

Four things
against
Thyatira
|

|
As Balaam in
Israels early
history, so
Jezebel,
daughter of the
king of Sidon
(1 Kings 16:21),
was the great
seducer to
idolatry in
Israels later
history. Like
her father, she
was swift to
violence and
murder. She was
a dedicated Baal
worshiper, as
was her father.
(His name, Eth-Baal,
expresses his
idolatry.)
Jezebel seduced
her weak husband
Ahab and Israel
beyond
calf-worship
(worship
of the true God,
but a violation
of the second
commandment)
to that of Baal
(violation of
the first and
second
commandments).
She seems to
have been a
prophetess of
Baal
(2 Kings
9:22, 30).
The spiritual
foe at Thyatira
lured
Gods servants
in the same way
as the
Balaamites and
Nicolaitans did
(2:6, 14, 15)to
fornication and
eating meat
offered to
idols. By false
spiritualism the
seducers led
their victims to
the grossest
carnality, as
though things
done in the
flesh were
outside of the
true man and
therefore of no
consequence!
Here there is a transfer from literal to spiritual fornication, as appears from 2:22. This idea arose from Yahwehs covenant relationship with Israel as being regarded as a marriage; any transgression against this relationship was harlotry, fornication, or adultery. Jezebel may have considered her insights to be deeper knowledge of God, but the Lord explained that these truths were really the teachings of Satan. The Lord condemned her teaching! | The judgment is to be as vicious as the sin has been! That also all the churches shall know that the Lord is who searches the 'reins' and 'hearts' This depicts Yeshua's/Christs Divine omniscience (Psalms139:1, 2, 23; Jeremiah 17:10). Heart is center of the thought or intellect according to Hebrew thought, while reins is literally kidneys, the center of the emotions. | Each of the seven letters ends with the exhortation, Anyone who is willing to hear should listen to the Spirit and understand what the Spirit is saying to the churches. The words of the Spirit are the words of Yeshua or Christ Himself. Note that all the letters were to be read to all the churches also today! Those who hear what is read should then listen to the Spirit in order to understand what the Spirit is saying and to know what should be done. Those who listen and do what the Spirit leads them to do will be victorious. These who are victorious will remain faithful to Yeshua or Christ Himself no matter what the cost! | |||||||||||||||
